SHORT NAPS OUT OF NOWHERE? 👀

Your baby was taking decent naps… and suddenly they’re waking after just 30–45 minutes.

And if your baby is around 3 months old, there may be a developmental reason for this. 💛

Around this age, babies’ sleep patterns are changing as their sleep cycles develop. They may start waking more fully between cycles, and linking those cycles into longer naps can still be a work in progress.

Here’s what to remember:

✨ A short nap doesn’t automatically mean your baby is overtired.

✨ It doesn’t necessarily mean your routine is wrong.

✨ Look at the bigger picture: your baby’s mood, awake time, total daytime sleep and night sleep.

✨ You don’t need to panic or change everything after one short nap.

Every baby is different, and persistent sleep changes alongside feeding difficulties, poor weight gain or unusual lethargy deserve a discussion with your healthcare professional.

Save this for the next time your 3-month-old surprises you with a 35-minute nap!

💬 How long are your baby’s naps at the moment? Tell me below.

The cute little bundle of joy currently contact napping on your chest is going through daily developmental changes! Some big, some small and when you know what to expect it's sometime so much easier to accept.

I often think that's why moms with a second or third baby is much more relaxed and accepting of this crazy period. I wish I knew what to expect with my firstborn, even through the hard times you would know there would be an end to this period.

“Put your baby down drowsy but awake.”

Okay, but what does DROWSY actually mean?! 😂

And why does my baby look practically asleep in my arms, only to open their eyes the SECOND they touch the mattress?

At Brave Little Baby, we don’t ask parents to chase the perfect drowsy-but-awake moment.

We focus on putting your baby down **awake**, with an age-appropriate routine and a settling approach that suits their needs.

Because learning to fall asleep independently doesn’t have to start with trying to decipher whether your baby’s eyelids are 40% or 60% closed. 🫠

Save this for the next time someone tells you to try drowsy but awake!

🌙 Awake, happy and chatting in the cot? You don’t always need to do anything! 🤍

It can feel confusing when your baby wakes in the middle of the night or in the early hours of the morning, but instead of crying, they’re happily babbling, rolling around or playing. 🥹

Your first instinct might be to go in and help them fall asleep again, but sometimes, the best thing you can do is give them a little space.

✨ Not every wake-up requires intervention.
✨ Being awake doesn’t automatically mean your baby needs help.
✨ Sleep-trained and non-sleep-trained babies can both experience periods of wakefulness.

Of course, always consider your baby’s needs and respond if they’re upset, hungry, uncomfortable or need reassurance. 🤍

Remember, the goal isn’t to make every wake-up disappear, but to give your baby the opportunity to practise settling when they’re ready and able to do so. 🌙

Save this post for those early mornings when you’re wondering whether to go in or give your little one a little more time. 🤍
